Javier Pérez, professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM; EOSE member in Spain), together with Belén Lara, Head of International Relations at the Spanish National Sports Council, and Alberto Jofre, former Managing Director of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, represented Spain at the Collaborative Prototyping Meeting organised under the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) Triangular Cooperation Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The meeting, entitled “Strengthening Institutional Capacities in the Implementation of Sport Indicators”, focused on economic impact of sport and improving public policies, including specific attention to participation in sport of people with disabilities.
Held at the AECID headquarters in Montevideo, Uruguay, from 19 to 23 January 2026, the meeting brought together experts and technical representatives from the ministries responsible for sport in Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Brazil and Spain.
During the meeting, the Spanish delegation presented insights from the ESSA-SPORT and SKILLS projects, both led by EOSE in recent years. The presentation outlined the methodological approach used to collect sport workforce and skills data, alongside specific findings from the Spanish context. The contribution generated strong interest among participants.
The statistical data collection initiated through these projects is continued and improved upon by EOSE through its annual Sport Employment Statistics , including a European research report and national fact sheets.
EOSE welcomes and values UPM’s contribution in sharing this work within an international cooperation setting. The exchange underlines the importance of robust labour market intelligence and comparable indicators in strengthening institutional capacity and supporting evidence-based sport policy development across regions.
