On 15 May 2009, an open call for proposals to implement the 2009
Preparatory Action in the field of Sport (EAC/21/2009) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. This 2009 call for proposals serves to implement the 2009 Preparatory Action in the field of sport in accordance with Commission Decision C(2009)1685 of 16 March 2009.
The Commission department responsible for implementation and management of this action is the Sport Unit of the Directorate-General for Education and Culture.
The main objective of the preparatory action in the field of sport for 2009 is to prepare future EU actions in this field, on the basis of the objectives and priorities set in the
White Paper on Sport.
The preparatory action will be implemented by testing the establishment and functioning of suitable networks and good practices which can serve as a basis for future actions in the field of sport. This call for proposals will support transnational projects to identify and test suitable networks and good practices in the field of sport, in the following areas:
a) Promoting health-enhancing physical activity
b) Promoting education and training in sport
c) Promoting EU fundamental values by encouraging sport for persons with disabilities
d) Promoting gender equality in sport

The following timetable will apply:
· 31/08/2009 - Deadline for submission of proposals
· September/ October 2009 - Evaluation and selection of proposals
· October / November 2009 - Decision and communication of the results
· Projects must start between 01/12/2009 and 31/03/2010
The budget available for this call for proposals is €4,000,000, under the heading “Preparatory Action in the field of sport”.
