Board Members

EOSE'S EXECUTIVE AND MANAGEMENT BOARD

EOSE Board Members are all working in the Sport and Active Leisure sector for several years and they bring with them a multitude of experience, skills and knowledge in line with the activities carried out by the organisation. Indeed, most of them were involved in the creation of the Observatoire in 2002 and initiated the work on VET in the sector at the European level.

It is an extraordinary advantage for EOSE to have personnel assigned to the work programme with experiences acquired from different sub-sectors of the sector (Voluntary, Professional, Health and Fitness and the Outdoors) but also from different kinds of stakeholders such as Social Partners, Education and Training Providers, Policy and Decision Makers, National Observatoire, and research Institutes. This diversity can also be described by the fact that the personnel within the structure have obtained some experience from private, public and non for profit types of organisations and have acquired their expertise in different occupations and level of responsibilities (Chief Executive, Manager, Researcher, Teacher, Director, Administrative…).

These backgrounds give to EOSE a very precise and developed knowledge of the whole sector, but also a clear understanding of its needs, realities, opportunities and challenges and of course help a lot in the development and strengthening of the current European Network.

EOSE is a membership organisation which is composed of an Executive Board, a Management Board led by the European Project Director and a permanent Secretariat. The whole activity of EOSE is strongly supported and based on a large European Network composed of the membership of the organisation and also the Alliance.

  • The Executive Board is composed of a President, Treasurer and Secretary General chosen among the persons elected by the General Assembly from the full members of EOSE.

  • The Executive Board is responsible to appoint a Management Board from EOSE members actively involved in the current projects and activities of the organisation. The Management Board comprises the members of the Executive Board and the additional appointed members and shall oversee the technical activities of the different working commissions of EOSE. Part of the EOSE Managment Board is the EOSE Research Committee that has the vision to promote and support EOSE research and projects to foster and sustain EOSE’s role in occupational science and employment research in sport and active leisure.

In 1989 Stephen was elected Chair of the Sport and Recreation Lead Body and led the industry development of its first national standards and NVQs, he has been at the centre of the Sector?s approach to learning and skills since then.

Following his secondment from the Sports Council in 1995 to establish SPRITO as the industry training organisation and then on to be the National Training Organisation, Stephen has been core to the development of the Sector organisation for education and training. Since the disbanding of the NTO network, Stephen has used his knowledge of the national skills agenda and his strategic and management capability to work very closely with the employers in the Sector to establish SkillsActive as the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure and Learning.
